Long Duration Storage LTESA Round 5 results

In February 2025, New South Wales awarded its largest long-duration storage contracts to date, totaling over 1 GW of capacity and 13.7 GWh of storage.

The three awarded projects are:

  • Phoenix Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES): An 800 MW / 11,990 MWh facility by ACEN at Lake Burrendong, capable of 15 hours of energy dispatch.

  • Stoney Creek Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): A 125 MW / 1,000 MWh project by Enervest Utility near Narrabri in the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).

  • Griffith BESS: A 100 MW / 800 MWh system by Eku Energy in the Riverina region.

These projects are part of the state's initiative to enhance renewable energy infrastructure and ensure grid reliability.
